As of November 9th, the United States has surpassed 10 million cases of coronavirus, now taking the lead for the most cases in one nation according to John Hopkins University. Given that it only took 10 days for the United States’ cases to increase from 9 million to 10 million, the rate at which the virus is spreading is definitely a concern. Experts like Michael Osterholm, University of Minnesota’s director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, project the possibility of as much as 200,000 new cases per day.
Dr. Thomas Frieden, former director of the CDC, describes the current state as “the exponential phase, and that means it’s going to get worse and frankly, a lot worse before it gets better.”
While the Midwest is struggling the most with coronavirus, no part of the nation is free from the grip of this virus. With the holidays right around the corner, families are expected to gather indoors, allowing the virus to spread more -- not to mention we are in the midst of flu season.
At the moment, new measures to control the virus have not been shared, but you can continue to slow the spread of coronavirus by frequently washing your hands, avoiding large gatherings, and wearing a face mask when in public or in contact with people not in your household.
